Nick Knudsen, a democratic writer for the Huffington Post, wrote the article, “America Is Sinking, And Only The People Can Rescue It. Here’s How.”, which explains America’s desperate need for reconstruction through the elections this coming November. Nick creates a metaphor for the readers: America is our ship at sea, the people hire the crew of the ship, and the ship is being led by an “arrogant captain”, Donald Trump. Nick believes that the passengers (the people of America) are being led into the dark waters and the only way to lead the people to the light is through defining a plan that the next oncoming leaders need to take immediate action upon. Nick states that the “GOP in its current form simply cannot be trusted with legislative control or executive oversight. They must be replaced with Democrats in massive numbers”. He includes a step by step plan of how to bring the people towards an awakening that results in the people banning together and standing against the system – rightfully taking what is ours and carefully executing it to save our democracy. Through this, he believes this will create a more stable and thoughtful future for generations to come. This article appeals to many: Democrats, people questioning the system, and the people who are willing and open to setting a new stage for Congress. Although this commentary does not include much evidence, it still stands alone and holds its accountability through the difficulty of proving many of the accusations it holds such as campaign finance issues involving dark money, abuses of power for personal gain, voter intimidation, and foreign influences. I believe that this commentary shows that America has the opportunity to restructure the system by putting our disputes and stances to the side and speaking our voice to the 116th Congress and this would be extremely beneficial for all citizens who believe in freedom and the continuation of our rights.
